Ridiculous Darkness

Theatre (2016)

Two soldiers, a dangerous mission in the tropical forests of Afghanistan, two Somali pirates, an Italian blue helmet, an ethnic Serb, a strange pastor, a parrot that says the news, a mysterious colonel who has deserted in the jungle, and a despairing writer of a radio play.
Based on Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness and Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now, The Ridiculous Darkness explores the European view of the “foreigner”, critiquing economic and military expansionism, and combining parody with the existential angst of the novel.
It won the award for best German language play of 2015 from the magazine TheaterHeute and from the Nestroy awards committee.

Creative Lighting recreated the shadowy, mysterious forests and guided the main characters into the darkness of their self.
